Weight Loss Surgery Financing

Weight loss surgery financing has become very popular over the last 10 years as the procedure has become very popular, yet remains very expensive. The procedure is generally done on those who are classified as morbidly obese. The goal is to reduce the size of the stomach with either a gastric band or by re-routing the small intestines to a small stomach pouch.

Weight loss surgical procedures can be traced back as far as the 1950s. Surgeons at the University of Minnesota performed a procedure commonly known today as gastric bypass. They induced a state of malabsorption by bypassing most of the intestines without disturbing the rest of the stomach. However, complications arose notable diarrhea, night blindness, Vitamin D deficiencies, kidney stones, and other minor ailments. Doctors were also concerned with a toxic overgrowth of bacteria in the bypassed intestine. This caused a host of other problems notable liver failure.

However, with increased research and the passage of time, the procedure has dramatically improved.
